The 6 smartwatches for referees this Christmas

There are so many different smartwatches on the market, so which one should referees ask for this Christmas?  Oh and by the way they all work with REFSIX.  We've compiled a list of our favourites:

For iPhones

1. Apple Watch Series 3 - from £359

The Apple Watch Series 3 is by far and away the best smartwatch out on the market today. It has an excellent heart rate sensor, GPS and is fully waterproof. For a sightlier sportier look you can opt for the Apple Watch Nike+ which has a better strap for activities as well as having our favourite watch screen which doesn't come on the standard Series 3.  It's definitely worth opting for the 42mm as the extra screen size is an improvement when interacting with the screen.

2. Apple Watch Series 2

If the Apple Watch Series 3 is out of your budget, the Apple Watch Series 2 is a great companion to REFSIX, recording GPS, you can get all of the functionality the Apple Watch Series 3 offers.  Unfortunately, Apple have stopped selling the Series 2 so look out for second-hand bargains on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree and eBay. We really don't recommend the Apple Watch Series 1 as it has no GPS and isn't waterproof.

For Android Phones

1. Huawei Watch 2

The Huawei Watch 2 packs a lot in at a very competitive price point. It has a bright and fully round OLED screen, is quick and the battery will last a couple of days under normal use. The watch looks the part on and off the pitch with a very high build quality and a stylish design. It has a full array of sensors including GPS and heart rate and runs Android Wear 2.0.

2. Polar M600

The Polar brand has a strong association with referees and the M600 is their first proper smart watch. It has a rugged and sporty look with its large rubber strap. It is waterproof and has GPS and heart rate sensors. This watch features a smaller square screen and runs Android Wear 2.0.

3. Ticwatch Sport

One of the newest Android Wear 2.0 watches on the scene, we think this is going to be very popular. It is a fully featured and stylish watch at an extremely competitive price point. It has GPS, heart rate, and a large fully round screen. The strap includes a built in GPS antenna which is deigned to improve GPS accuracy. We are getting ours soon and will report on our findings.

4. Sony Smartwatch 3

If you want a cheap but reliable Android Wear watch for refereeing, you really can't fault the Sony Smartwatch 3. It is a few years old running Android Wear 1, but has built in GPS and a good battery. It's form factor is a bit smaller that some of it's competitors too which makes it fit nicely on the wrist. The main drawbacks of this device is the screen, which isn't very bright and struggles with colours under bright light conditions. The only thing really missing from it is a heart rate sensor. Makes a great budget watch and can sometimes be found for under £100.
